Identity Verification

To comply with financial regulations and keep your account secure, UniFi requires identity verification. The type of identification number we accept depends on your country of residence.

Why we require identity verification

U.S. federal law—including the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering (AML) regulations—requires financial institutions to verify customer identity. This is commonly known as "Know Your Customer" or KYC.

What your identification number is used for:

Confirming you are who you say you are
Preventing fraud and protecting your account
Complying with U.S. financial regulations

What your identification number is NOT used for:

Credit checks — we don't run credit checks or report to credit bureaus
Marketing — we never share your information with third parties for marketing purposes
Selling data — your personal information is never sold

How we protect your information:

Your identification number is encrypted using enterprise-grade security, stored with strict access controls, and only accessed when required for verification or regulatory compliance.

How to verify your identity

Identity verification happens during account setup. When you reach the "Verify your identity" step:

Confirm your country of residence
Select your identification type from the dropdown (for U.S. customers, choose either "Social Security Number" or "Individual Taxpayer Identification Number")
Enter your identification number
Tap Verify

If you have an ITIN instead of an SSN, just select "Individual Taxpayer Identification Number" from the dropdown. Both are fully supported.

United States

If you're a U.S. resident, we accept either:

SSN — Social Security Number
ITIN — Individual Taxpayer Identification Number

If you don't have an SSN, you can use your ITIN to verify your identity. Both are fully supported for all UniFi features.
