Shared Accounts

UniFi Shared Accounts let you share money with family, friends, or anyone you trust—no matter where they live. Each member gets their own access with permissions you control.

What are Shared Accounts?

A Shared Account is a UniFi account that multiple people can access. Unlike joint bank accounts that require everyone to be in the same country or visit a branch, UniFi Shared Accounts work instantly across borders.

Common uses:

  • Supporting family abroad — Give parents or siblings access to funds
  • Couples managing money together — Share a household budget
  • Parents and teens — Teach financial responsibility with controlled access
  • Roommates — Split shared expenses easily

Roles

When you invite someone to a Shared Account, you assign them a role:

  • Admin — Full control over the account. Can view, spend, and initiate transfers. Requires a U.S. SSN or ITIN.
  • Authorized User — Can view the balance and transaction history. If they're in an eligible country, they can also get their own UniFi Card to spend from the account. Cannot initiate transfers.

Adding members

To invite someone to a Shared Account:

  1. Open the account you want to share
  2. Tap Members
  3. Tap the + button
  4. Enter their email address
  5. Choose their role (Admin or Authorized User)
  6. Tap Send invitation

The new member will receive an email with instructions to join. They can accept instantly—even if they're in another country.

Members need their own UniFi account to join a Shared Account. If they don't have one, they can sign up when they accept your invitation.

Member cards

Members in eligible countries can get their own virtual card linked to the Shared Account. Cards are available instantly and can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.

All spending shows up in the shared transaction history, so everyone can see what's been purchased.

The UniFi Card is currently available to members in the U.S. and Mexico. More countries coming soon.

Managing members

You can update roles or remove members at any time:

  1. Open the Shared Account
  2. Tap Members
  3. Tap on the member you want to manage
  4. Update their role or remove them

Changes take effect immediately.

Use cases

Supporting parents abroad

Share an account with your parents in the Philippines. Add them as an Authorized User so they can see the balance and transaction history in real-time. If they're in a country where the UniFi Card is available, they can also get their own card to spend from the account.

Couples managing together

Create a shared account for household expenses. Add your partner as an Admin so you both have full control—view transactions, spend, and transfer money as needed.

Teaching teens about money

Add your teenager as an Authorized User. They can view the balance and spend with their own card, but can't transfer money out. You see every transaction in real-time.
